Hot Ways to Stay Cool This Summer

By Maleah Puente

In the summer, I tend to fall into a fashion rut when the temperatures rise. I live in Texas where our summers are HOT and HUMID. I try to dress cute each time I step out the house, but some days I end up wearing a simple tank top and shorts that I feel neither cute nor confident in. Here are some super hot ways to stay cool in the heat.

While the denim short is a summer staple, I have been obsessed with switching it up with patterned shorts that have a pop of color. Three patterns that scream vintage summer are stripes, gingham, and polka dot. These three patterns whether they are red, blue, yellow, pink, are timeless and transport me to summer in the 60s.

Growing up by the beach and loving that lifestyle, crochet pieces always stand out to me. Something about thrifting a unique and colorful crochet top feels beachy and gives me a hippie vibe that I love to incorporate as a part of my aesthetic. Crochet tops are a perfect way to let the breeze in and keep cool while adding a new texture.

Even as a born and raised California girl, one of my favorite summer aesthetics is east coast summer fashion. Something about it is so clean, chic, and relaxing. The comfortable, light, oversized, and neutral colored clothing might all feel very minimalistic (something I tend to steer away from), but it creates such a specific summer feeling no matter what coast you live on.

Like always, one of my greatest fashion tips is to accessorize. Although it may be unbearably hot, there are so many fun ways to add to and accessorize your outfits. Some of my summer favorites being sunglasses and hats to block out the sun, headbands, headscarves, and hairclips to pull back your hair, and of course, jewelry of all kinds.

Lastly, nothing screams summer more than a flowy sundress. As simple as it seems, there are tons of ways to style a sundress. You can dress them up with heels for a night out, layer it over your bikini after a beach day, or dress it down with sneakers and a hat. The possibilities are endless.

I know depending on where you live, some of these outfits might seem impractical or make you feel like an outsider, but it’s important to remember that you have the freedom to wear absolutely whatever you want. If you feel cute and confident in what you’re wearing, I love your outfit!
