A Single Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s Day

By Stella Violet

Despite being single, Valentine’s Day is still one of my favorite holidays. Flowers, girly colors, and being surrounded by my friends, what more could I ask for? I get it; for those newly single, this commercialized holiday can bring back some unwanted memories.

However, if you’re single this Valentine’s Day, here’s a list of what you and your girlfriends can do instead of crying and stuffing your face with chocolate.

Heart-shaped Pizza’s

Get your friends together and make some heart-shaped pizzas. According to icon and living legend Trisha Paytas, “Pizza is forever.” From experience, don’t expect these pizzas to come out Pinterest-perfect, but the dedication and hard work make them worth it.

Buy flowers

Just because someone isn’t going to buy you flowers doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a dozen or two roses. Do not post your flowers on Valentine’s Day to ‘Flowers’ by Miley Cyrus; it’s too corny.

Make Friendship Bracelet’s

Go to Michael’s, or pick up one of those Goodwill mystery bags full of random charms, and make cute bracelets or necklaces with your friends. I think this idea is adorable and cost-friendly, not to mention these bracelets will be such a cute memory to hold onto with your friends. It could also be cute for you and your friends to pick out charms for each other that remind you of the other person.

Valentine’s Day Drinks

Grab your friends and try making different types of Valentine’s Day-themed cocktails or mocktails. Dress them up with heart-shaped fruit or add bows to the flutes of the glasses. TikTok already has many different recipes to choose from for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

Bake some sweet treats

Valentine’s Day treats are my favorite baked goods of the year because of how cute they are. There are so many options for what to bake from heart-shaped sweet breads to sweetheart cookies. This is also a fun activity to do with your friends, especially when it comes to decorating.

Watch your favorite Rom Com’s

Will watching your favorite romantic comedies make you feel less alone? Probably not. However, the nostalgic feeling you get from watching an early 2000s movie is unmatched.

Write letters to loved ones

Grab a pen and some paper and write letters to those you love. This is a unique idea because you can decorate the letters with bows, thread, stamps, and stickers.

Dress up and take photos

This is probably my favorite idea on the list because it gives you an excuse to dress up. Whether you hit the town or stay in, many different ideas exist for a Valentine’s Day-themed photoshoot.

Just because you’re single does not mean you have to miss out on any Valentine’s Day activities. Spend time with yourself and your friends and remember that guys come and go. Watch some rom-coms, eat some heart-shaped pizza, and enjoy your hand-made baked goods. I hope this Valentine’s Day is as sweet as you are and that you make the most of it.
