A Comprehensive Guide to Winter 2023 Outfit Ideas and Activities

Exaggerated Jackets, Vibrant Tights, Accent Pieces, And Bows Throughout!
It’s that time of year again, where I venture to my storage unit to trade my summer clothes for my winter attire. In order to make sure you look your best wherever the holiday season may take you, I have increased the amount of media I consume this year in order to precisely predict what will be in store for this winter.
(Faux) Fur Coats
Unique oversized coats are all the rage this season. If you only spend money on one thing this winter, make it a nice coat.I have been loving the revival of a good faux fur coat, similar to Penny Lane’s coat in Almost Famous. My best piece of advice is to keep an eye out for these items at thrift and antique stores.I am especially fond of the leopard print faux fur coats I have seen on Pinterest recently (if you happen to come across one, please let me know).
So, unless you’re willing to pay full price then thrifting is your best option. For this reason, I feel compelled to caution you — fast fashion is not only a terrible choice, but it is also very obvious. Therefore, I would invest a little more money to purchase a winter coat that will genuinely keep you warm in addition to helping you find your own special ideal coat.
Christmas Tree Decor
It is no secret that bows are in style for 2023, and Christmas trees are no different, in my opinion. This year, adorn your tree with as many bows as you can if you are looking for a different and enjoyable decorating idea. There are numerous ways to customize this adorable and fashionable tree decoration idea this year, so make sure yours is the most distinctive.
Custom Stockings
I also adore the concept of gathering your girlfriends for a night of stocking-making do-it-yourself. The element of personalization reminds me a lot of the Jane Birkin bag trend that we saw this year. The key is to be creative; add bows, hand sew patches, and different colored tulle, and you are set.
Faux Fur Hats
One of these oversized faux fur hats is an absolute necessity for the snowy season. The “slavic girl” trend honors the various winter ensembles worn by Slavic women across the country.I adore how these hats add an extravagant touch to any ensemble while keeping you toasty. If you want to get ahead of the game, I recommend looking for these hats in a variety of colors. Personally, I think the dark red color adds a nice pop of color without appearing cheap.
I have said it before and I will say it again: get yourself some bright tights. It is the ideal way to dress up any outfit this winter. We all know how difficult it is to look cute while staying warm on the weekends, but wearing your favorite dress under an oversized coat and colorful tights is the ultimate way to look cute while staying warm. You’re only young once, wear bright colors, you have the rest of your life to dress modestly.
Do not forget to pick up some basic colored tights while you are at it; they are a wardrobe essential. My only suggestion would be to find some shiny basic tights which will elevate your overall look.
Oversized Bags
In the past year and a half I’ve seen micro-bags make their mark. However, I think the oversized bag will make a comeback this winter. Anything less than a large enough bag to fit your entire wardrobe should be carried; it is too cold and inconvenient to do otherwise. Especially with the dramatic layering I expect to see this winter, an oversized bag is the only option. I would suggest staying away from anything fuzzy, primarily because it makes me think of the ridiculous obsession with winter tote bags from last year. However, I hope that these bags will also be “Jane Birkin-fied” this winter. Add on a few charms or locks and you’re ready to make a statement.
Buckle Boots
It’s time to retire your old Moon Boots and think about getting a pair of buckle boots. With the extravagant upper-wear it’s time to town down when it comes to shoes. Black boots are a wardrobe essential that match with almost everything. With a few buckles, any pair of black boots can be transformed. Depending on the style, I believe leaving them unbuckled can make any ensemble stand out. Use your creativity and pair these with any outfit to complete the look. To go with outfits with warmer tones, I would also suggest looking for a dark brown pair.
Oversized Scarves/Head-Wrap Scarves
I saw this trend start to gain traction last winter, but I think head scarves were greatly underestimated. However, I hope that this winter, people will make good use of their oversize scarves from the previous season. Personally, I would go for a scarf with a more subdued pattern or a solid color. No offense intended to the Acne Studios scarf with its vibrant plaid pattern. However, it has had its moment.
My logic is that once fast fashion companies get their hands on an item, you have no choice but to get rid of it. If not, you will see five thousand distinct iterations of the same scarf with a fake branded tag.
Trust me and stick with an original pattern or simple color and let the rest of your outfit speak for itself.
Having said that, these are my top recommendations for the upcoming winter.
Look for intriguing clothing items that fit your style and personality, aka be unique.
Throw out past trends like Moon Boots and the Acne Studios scarf.
Do not be afraid to be bold and dramatic; the more interesting your outfit, the more interesting your conversations with strangers will be.
Mary-Kate and Ashley were fashion pioneers who will be remembered for the rest of their lives.
And, of course, have fun with your friends, because boyfriends are ruled out for this winter.
So, go out for drinks in your oversized coat and scarf, and make sure to hide a flask in your oversized bag at the bar, and most importantly, act like you are the best dressed at any event (because you are).
